What are the requirements to bring to my legal paternity test appointment?
What you need to bring to your DNA sample collection appointment is your state ID (drivers license, state ID or passport).
If you are a New York State resident all parties involved with your DNA test are required to get a prescription from NYS licensed doctor, a court order from judge or letter from a family law attorney.
What type DNA sample will be collected?
The method of collection is performed by buccal cheek swab. Blood samples are another viable sample collection method by it is more invasive and painful method of collection. Both collection options have a similar accuracy.
When will I receive my DNA results?
The turnaround time for results is 2 to 3 business days from the date the lab receives all genetic samples.
Does the DNA results need to tested by an accredited lab?
Yes. All DNA samples are tested and analyzed by partner AABB (formerly known as the American Association of Blood Banks) accredited DNA laboratory.

Information will only be released to third parties with the explicit consent of the participants involved with genetic test or by court-order. Specimen samples on file are kept for 90 days on average than destroyed.

Does the mother need to be involved with a paternity test?
A mother’s participation is not required but is recommended to strengthen the DNA analysis. Although, when establish paternity through family court, a judge may recommend the mother to participate in the paternity test.
Does a father need permission to perform DNA test?
Yes. If the unmarried man’s name is not on the child’s birth certificate. He will need have the mother or legal guardian of the child present to give consent.
Married men do not need the mother’s permission to perform a legal paternity test.
Are my DNA results court admissible?
Yes. All legal DNA testing services we provide legally admissible and will be recognized in court.
Please note, if you have an order from a judge to perform a DNA test. We recommend that you follow the judge’s instruction on how they would like your results to be submitted to the court.
Can I perform a legal paternity test before a child is born?
No. Currently performing a legal DNA test while the mother is pregnant is not an option.
A chain of custody is required for DNA results to be legally admissible in court for the child would have to be born in order to complete the chain of custody.
Can I use my Home paternity test results legally?
No. Home DNA paternity tests are for peace of mind purposes only and does not require a chain of custody to be established like a legal paternity test does.
Is paternity testing mandatory?
No. Paternity testing is not mandatory, All DNA testing services are voluntary and require the cooperation of the individuals involved with the paternity test.
