How Long Does It Take To Receive Results From an Immigration DNA Test?

How long does it typically take to receive results from an immigration DNA test?

The answer to this question depends on several factors.

Domestic DNA Testing Turnaround Times

When all parties are located within the United States, the average turnaround time is approximately two to three business days from the date the laboratory receives all DNA samples. Once the samples have been tested and analyzed, the results are sent directly to the requesting immigration agency. A secondary copy is mailed to the petitioner’s home, and an additional copy is also provided via email.

International DNA Testing Turnaround Times

In cases where the beneficiary lives abroad in another country, the turnaround time depends on the U.S. embassy or consulate’s workload to schedule a DNA collection appointment. In cases where DNA testing is requested in response to a USCIS Request for Evidence (RFE) or other office action, applicants are typically given up to 84 days to respond.

In these situations, we recommend submitting the official document issued by the laboratory confirming that your family has initiated the DNA testing process along with a copy of the USCIS I-130 Request for Evidence (RFE) or office action notice. In many cases, petitioners may not have any additional secondary evidence available, and this is acceptable. The laboratory will issue you a USCIS response letter, when submitted together with the USCIS RFE, serves as a proper and timely response provided the evidence is submitted before the response deadline listed on the USCIS notice, while the DNA testing process is underway.
